A simple calculator for an important decision

Government websites have all the information you need, but between the administrative jargon, the complex tables and the cross-references between pages, it's not always easy to get to a clear answer. Estimation congé parental turns that information into a concrete, visual and fast tool, so you can plan your leave without having to decode a government form.

How it works

Information about parental benefits already exists on the Government of Canada and Retraite Québec websites. But between the eligibility conditions, the technical terms, the plans that all look alike and the links that send you to yet another page, you often come away with even more questions.

By answering five questions, we generate a clear, visual estimate of your benefits — without you having to read ten pages of documentation. The tool doesn't replace the official sources, it makes them accessible.

What the tool covers

Estimation congé parental covers the two main parental benefit systems in Canada:

QPIP — For Quebec residents. Higher rates, a higher maximum insurable earnings threshold, basic plan and special plan.

Federal EI — For residents of other provinces and territories. Standard plan (40 weeks) and extended plan (69 weeks).

Calculations are based on the official EI and QPIP rates in effect in 2026. The interface is available in French and English, and all calculations run directly in your browser — no data is sent to our servers.

Limitations

Estimation congé parental is an estimation tool. Your actual benefit will be determined by Service Canada or Retraite Québec based on your individual file. See our disclaimer for more details.

Frequently asked questions

Is the estimate official?

It's an indicative estimate, designed to help you prepare financially before you apply. The final amount is always confirmed by the official body — the Conseil de gestion de l'assurance parentale for QPIP, or Service Canada for federal EI.

Does this calculator replace the official government portal?

Think of this tool as a preparation step, not a replacement. It helps you understand your options and plan your budget before filing your official application with Revenu Québec (for QPIP) or Service Canada (for EI).

How is the estimate calculated?

The calculation applies your plan's income replacement rate (QPIP or EI) to your average weekly income, up to the insurable earnings cap in effect ($103,000 for QPIP in 2026, for example). The tool then adjusts based on the benefit type chosen and the number of weeks you want.
